Do you make full use of your web traffic?
Tuesday, June 16th, 2009 Articles, Blog by sweetmagIn today’s online world, people have very short attention spans and are also much more selective on where they spend time. You may have what they are looking for, whether it’s for sale or free info, but if they deem your site, unprofessional or are distracted by too many other elements on your site, they have gone. This is why website design is so important in getting a visitor to take action. Either by buying what you’re selling or signing up on a mailing list, program, rss feed, bookmarking etc..
Now think about your website(s) for a moment.. How many more repeat visitors, leads and sales could you be getting if you improve the graphics and web design, even just a little bit? Remember that graphics are to draw focus to a certain aspect of your site, the design should make it so it’s easy to use and also provide a means for the visitor to return.
Consider hiring someone to do your graphics and design if you don’t have the necessary skills to ‘spice up your site’.
You can do a few things to make your website more attractive:
- Use premade website templates that you either buy or download for free (free ones usually aren’t that great)
- If you have a headline that’s plain text, you might want to use an image program like photoshop or GIMP (free) to edit the text to add boldness, wave effects or anything that makes it look cooler.
- You can search free image download archives on the net if you want to add extra images to represent content.
- If you have many pages on your site, make it easy to go from one to another. Always keep a visible link that goes back to your home page.
- Make sure the text is easy to read and any background image you have does not interfere with it.
- Add a video if applicable
- hire a designer
To increase repeat visitors, subscribers, sales you can:
- Add an ‘exit grabber’ which is basically a piece of code that displays what you want when the visitor tries to leave.
- Offer a free gift in exchange for the visitors email somewhere on your site. Use E-Mail marketing.
- Include links to any social networking sites (also know as Web 2.0).
I get asked a lot “how do I get more traffic?”. While it’s a very important topic, I think its best to first make sure your website is looking great and gets more people to take action. Maximize the results you get from the traffic you receive, I think that’s actually easier sometimes then trying to get more traffic.
